Every first Friday of the month we bring in a smart female founder to hear a bit about their biz, their process, and how we can celebrate them as a member of our community.

Enter Blue Indigo Co. Founder and general jack-of-all-trades, Karlye Price. Karlye grew her business from a small gift to a friend's baby, Marley, and now Blue Indigo Co. has reached almost every state, a handful of other countries, and is being sold in several stores across the United States.

She's big on intentionality, supporting other small businesses, and breaking the cycle of "the circle of self-doubt".

Karlye has coined a phenomenon she calls "the circle of self-doubt", which is what happens when you internalize other people's negativity - if someone else fails and then judges themselves harshly for it, it's so easy to mirror that thought pattern in your own life. When you trap yourself in with self-doubt, it's hard to say "yes" to yourself. When you're caught in the circle of self-doubt, it's hard to be creative or succeed.

She's been able to bust herself out of her own inhibitions and create line after line of luxurious handmade knotted headwraps. She admits it's easy to feel discouraged when businesses push back on wholesale prices due to the locally-sourced quality of her product, but she remembers the smile on little Marley's face wearing her headwrap. Blue Indigo Co.'s 2021 debut collection is a collaboration with now-three-year-old Marley and was released last week.

Karlye strives to cultivate kindness in every sale, so she makes sure to work with local designers on patterns, make an investment in eco-friendly packaging, and proudly label Blue Indigo Co. as a Black and female-owned company. We can't wait to see what she does next.
